Carrier Ethernet and Packet Optical Network infrastructures provide higher capacity and greater flexibility than traditional network transport based on TDM circuits.

Without IEEE 1588 and PTP, packet networks cannot transport precise timing and frequency synchronization signals – an essential requirement for Voice, CBR and Wireless applications.

PTP enables delivery of high quality sync signals over the packet network, reducing the need for synchronization elements at wireless base stations and other remote sites.
